I have had many similar nightmarish experiences - I have found the best way is to get the platform for the web site layed out even if its in a primitive web site builder program so I can work with the outline of the site myself - then bring in the experts. This way you are not paying expaensive rates for work that you really have to do yourself anyway because it is your business.
